Southwest coast of Vancouver Island

After our city time in Victoria it was back to nature, to Sooke and Port Renfrew. Small, amazingly picturesque homes on the rocky shore of Puget Sound. We stayed at French Provincial Park, which is Canada’s version of national park campgrounds. This one was in the rain forest, steps from the beach, with lots of space between sites. We hiked quite a ways to get to a known petroglyph site, of either a seal or walrus. We’ve noticed a lack of signage in all of the parks, which turned our hike into a scavenger hunt. Which was fine as our laid back schedule allows for these types of things, and naps. Then it was on to the middle of the island as we made our way to Tofino, on the west coast. We camped near Sproat Lake and also hiked to see more rock art, which was really great. Guide books say the panel is the best in coastal B.C. There were fantastical sea creatures and other what-not, as Brian Lemke would say.

From Idaho we made a beeline to Incline Village to see Dawn’s brother Dan and partner Lana. It was wonderful, quality time together....

Replying to

One source says between 9,000 and 12,000 years old. So, pretty old. ;-)
